PostUp Design Sprint Case Study
My Role
Product Designer — solo student project for Springboard UX/UI Bootcamp
Timeline
1-week design sprint
Day 1: Understand + map
Remote workers cannot find places to work outside of their home
PostUp is a new startup where freelancers and remote workers share tips, resources, and advice. Recently PostUp has seen a lot of feedback and discussions about how to find good public places to work from. The users want those places to be suitable for quiet work.
Research Highlights + Insights
Understanding User Flow
To better understand our users, we conducted an interview and specifically asked the interviewee to walk us through their workflow.
Day 2: Sketch
Reduce the time needed to find the perfect place
To start the lighting demo, I spent 30 minutes each with 3 different competitors on the market.
Since PostUp users will have different needs and wants for the coffee shop of their choice, the majority of the activity would be during the selection screen (when the user decides which coffee shop to go to). This page would show all the surface level of information for users before they can decide if they would like to dive deeper into said coffee shops.
With the main focus defined, I started creating different iterations of the selection screen and what it could look like.
Day 3: storyboard
Creating the flow of the app
After selecting the desired Selection Screen, I then created a storyboard that shows the possible steps our users will take when they first log into PostUp. This will help me identify what functions and elements should be shown first and foremost due to our small-screen real estate. Of course, more detailed information will also be shown but not during the Cafe Selection screen.
day 4: Prototype
Build it out!
After seeing a general storyboard of the possible solution, I start creating a low-fidelity prototype with the storyboard and sketches as notes and references. My goal for this prototype is to simplify the searches of Cafes within the app PostUp.
day 5: test + feedback
A/B Click Tests
Lastly, to quantitatively review the usability of the application, I hosted an A/B testing session. The result of the testing came back overwhelmingly positive and confirmed that I was on the right track regarding the structures, copies, and visuals. I also paid extra attention to any blockages during the testing phase and made any adjustments needed.
SCENARIO GIVEN:
You are a WFM marketing professional. Due to the construction at home, you are left with no internet and a lot of noise from the demolition. Use PostUp to find a place to work that will allow you to attend 3 meetings within the span of 5 hours!
